As Angiologist I hope this new drug "dabigatran" as soon as possible will be commonly used in our clinical practice also against venous thrombosis wheter superficial or deep. .....so ...managing these kind of diseases would be easier for…

Differnet, not same. CA reveals normal epicardial coronaries through biplane imaging. IVUS can reveals cocealed defects. Thanks for this nice blog post.

How to tunnel your way into the CTO and create your own coronary artery !

Thumbnail
Opening the chronically occluded coronary(CTO) artery gives the ultimate sense of achievement and satisfaction for the cardiologist. Of course , the patient may or may not share the same feeling . . . ! There are simple and complex CTOs . Some CTOs are opened in few minutes , some fail even after hours of manipulation . For successful CTO opening both hardware and technique are equally important. Now we understand , acquiring expertise with one or two guidewires and mastering them is the key to…See More

Can you diagnose AV dissociation without looking at ECG ?

Thumbnail
AV dissociation is common clinical situation that can occur during both bradyarrhythmias and tachyarrhythmias .Bradycardias* Complete heart block* During pacemaker rhythmsTachycardias* Accelerated junctional rhythm* Idioventricular rhythm* Ventricular tachycardiaAV dissociation is essentially an ECG diagnosis. But it is associated with some clinical signs ,which can be detected by an astute physician in the bedside. At rapid heart rates it may be really difficult at times to recognise theses…See More

Why ECG evidence for AV dissociation does not occur in majority of patients with ventricular tachycardia ?

Thumbnail
AV dissociation is the specific marker for diagnosing VT. Evidence for AV dissociation manifest in many ways in ECG. *Random p waves unrelated to qrs complexes , fusion beats , capture beats are the common features that help us diagnose AV dissociation. Unfortunately these occur only in about 40 % of patients with VT.(Fusion beats in VT are also called as Dressler’s beat)What is the normal AV association ?In normal physiology , even though atria are passive , powerless chambers in terms of…See More

RE-LY: Oral antithrombin dabigatran outshines warfarin in atrial fib August 30, 2009 | Steve Stiles

Thumbnail
Barcelona, Spain (updated) - An oral anticoagulant that does not go by the name of warfarin prevented strokes and peripheral embolic events in patients with atrial fibrillation (AF) significantly better than that much older drug at a higher dose and just as well at a lower dose in a huge randomized trial [1]. It was also just as safe as warfarin or better than it, respectively, with respect to major bleeding events, according to investigators reporting today at the European Society of…See More

What is a normal coronary angiogram & What is a normal coronary artery ? Do they mean the same ?

Coronary angiogram is a video graphic snap shot of coronary arterial lumen which is filled with radio opaque dye. This is some times called as coronary luminogram . It is a paradox , when we say normal coronary angiogram we can only mean normal coronary lumen. But generally, this can provide sufficient information regarding the status of coronary blood flow. There are three structured layers in coronary artery wall . Coronary angiogram can not give any information about the status of the intima,… Continue

ECG changes of myocardia ischemia

Sub endocardial ischemia produces ST segment depression while transmural or subepicardial ischemia produces ST segment elevation.

It should be possible to record an ECG within 10 minutes of reporting to the emergency department in a case of suspected acute myocardial infarction.

Initial peaking and broadening of T wave is one of the earliest change in acute ST elevation myocardial infarction. But this alone is not specific enough to recommend thrombolytic therapy. Nothing is… Continue

AV node dependent and AV node independent tachycardias

SVT can be classified into AV node independant and AV node dependant tachycardias. Sinus tachycardia, atrial tachycardias, atrial flutter and atrial fibrillation are AV node independant tachycardia because the AV nodal conduction is not necessary for the maintenance of the tachycardia. In AVNRT, AVRT and junctional tachycardia are AV node dependent tachycardias. Integral conduction of AV node is essential for the maintenance of the tachycardia in these conditions. Blocking the AV nodal… Continue

Supra ventricular tachycardia

Pulmonary vein tachycardia has positive P waves in V2 to V6 as the atrial activation starts posteriorly and moves towards the recording electrodes. Tachycardia originating from the right atrial appendage may has negative P waves in chest leads.

Atrial fibrillation is extremely rare in a new born because it needs a larger atrium for maintenance. If atrial fibrillation is seen in a new born, it indicates atrial enlargement as in ventricular dysfunction and could be due to conditions… Continue
