A Professional & Personal Networking Site for all People related to Cardiology
A series of presentations from New Delhi, India for the Indira Gandhi National Open University. The lectures constitute course materials for the Post Graduate Diploma in Clinical Cardiology (PGDCC). An interductory overview of scanning technique for beginners.
Part 1, Series 1 provides a historical introduction to the field of echocardiography and goes on to provide an overview of the equipment and science employed in the field. Particular attention is paid to the use of image optimisation controls.
Part 2, Series 1 describes practical scanning technique. Patient positioning is discussed and followed by a comprehensive demonstration of trans-thoracic scanning. Probe positioning and orientation is demonstrated. The anatomical relationships in each resultant view are then demonstrated. Attention is then paid to LV segment classification and imaging. The use of Mmode echocardiography is then discussed.
Part 1, Series 2. A more recent production, constitutes most of the information from both parts of Series 1 as described above.
Part 2, Series 2. More attention is paid to the physics of ultrasound. The use of Doppler echocardiography is discussed, PW and CW Doppler is described and characterised. The importance of the Nynquist limit is also addressed. Quantitative echocardiography is introduced with discussion on the calculation of flow volumes and gradients. The assessment of diastolic function is also introduced.
